Dare to Dream

Hello beautiful women of God, I am so blessed to have been given this opportunity to pour into you today. Now is the time for us to take action and jump start our deferred dreams. In honor of Martin Luther King Day, it is my desire to push you towards purpose and achieving a victorious life.

About 15 years ago, when I was ten years old, I remember working extremely hard on a paper, turning it in, and having my teacher completely dismiss me and my writing ability. At this time in my life I had already written several poems and a few scripts. (Yes I was ten years old with a mini portfolio). My teacher was fully aware of my dream to write novels and stage plays. She handed me back my paper with a failing grade written in red at the top right hand corner of the page. Looking me straight in my eyes she said, "I suggest you rethink your future career as a writer. You summarize way too much and you lack the ability to properly take your thoughts and put them on paper for someone else to understand." She was a dream killer and her words murdered mine.

From that moment on I began seeking other options for a career such as being a lawyer or an FBI agent but none of them seemed to fulfill the yearning that was growing inside of me. I found myself in my early 20's laughing and joking with a few friends about writing a book of our crazy college experiences. It was the first time in years that I had even entertained the thought of pursuing a career in writing. So in my spare time I would journal whatever came to mind. My thoughts became ideas and my ideas became stories.

That is when I realized that God was calling me to something greater. Deciding to live holistically, choosing the Lord's will over my own allowed for Him to order my steps, open up doors, and bless me in unexplainable ways. He then resurrected and reaffirmed my dream to become writer and one day own a movie production company.  It really amazes me how The Lord will re-direct and rearrange our lives to fit into His perfect plan.

As I reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life today, I stand in awe of his accomplishments, many of which he achieved by the age of 30. Could I have done all that he did? Probably not because that wasn't the Lord's will for my life. God gave Dr. King a dream and He fully equipped him with everything that he needed to fulfill his purpose.

Beloved, know that the same God that gave Dr. Marin Luther King Jr. his dream, is the same God that is living and working in you. The Lord longs to use you in a mighty way to impact this world and expand His Kingdom. What is it that God is calling you to do? What was that past dream that continues to creep into your present day thoughts? Some mothers just want to master motherhood so that they can position their children for success. The call to be a mother itself is major and the sacrifices that we make daily go unnoticed. I applaud you all for overcoming trials while smiling through your pain in the face of your children and family.

Women of God you are strong and courageous and I honor you for saying yes to motherhood. But today I encourage you to be selfish for just a few moments. Spend some time alone separating yourselves from your children, spouse, work, cell phone, and anything else that may distract you. Immerse yourself in His great and mighty presence. Ask for His will to be done in your life. We are purpose filled and purpose driven, striving daily to be more like Him. Let's not just go to God asking for Him to bless us but instead go to Him with an open mind and heart, inviting Him to plant His desires within us.

Success is never associated with falling or making mistakes. It is in these times particularly that we realize that we are weak and cannot complete our appointed tasks in our own strength. When we stumble we learn to fully rely on Christ to be our way maker. Enjoy this faith walk and remember to take it one step at a time. There is purpose and destiny in you. Ladies it's time to make our dreams come true!

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Prayer Starter
Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you, love you, honor you, and bless your Holy name. Lord God we thank you for giving us a clear vision and a plan of action to fulfill the call on our lives. We thank you in advance for ideas, funding, and Kingdom driven people that will assist us in making your plan for us come true. Lord God we choose your will over ours.  We ask that you will protect our families during this time as we go to work for your Kingdom. We ask that you cover our minds and spirits today. May no weapons formed against us prosper.

In Jesus' Name Amen

Marlia,

Wonderful post! Thank you for reminding us to "Dare to Dream." Sometimes, others may make us feel like dreaming is a waste of time. But, if it is something God places on our heart, we should pursue that dream.

I can't believe there are teachers out there that are that cruel. However, I believe most of us have had one or two sometime during our life.

So, when I face obstacles in pursuing or achieving my dream, I try to remember what Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." [NIV].

I believe, Marlia, you are going to achieve the dream God placed on your heart!
