Join me in prayer

Hi ladies-

I have so much on my mind these days as I watch local and national news.  My heart breaks for what our world is becoming.

The biggest concern on my heart these days is the thousands of kids that have crossed the US border recently from Central America.  I believe that I heard on the news that the count was up to 52,000 children that have crossed the border since October 2013.  They are coming into this country to avoid harmful and dangerous living.  They're crossing over on their own, with no parent or adult to help them.

Perhaps it's because my family is from Guatemala and I personally have a tie to Central America but I can't stop thinking about these children.  So much so that I told my husband that if we could, I would want to move to Arizona or Texas to help these children.  Of course, for many reasons, we cannot make a move that huge at this point in our lives but there is something that I can do... I can pray.

I can pray for all of those children that are probably very scared and very alone and very sad to have had to leave everything they know and love.  I can thank God for the courage and bravery in such young hearts and ask that that same courage and bravery would get them through the next days, weeks, months, and possibly years as they try to figure out where they belong in the world.  I can pray for our government officials who are trying to figure out how to assist, feed, educate, and vaccinate these thousands of children, as well as pray that they make the best decisions for the children and not for their own political platform.  And lastly, I can pray that God would be glorified through this humanitarian crisis.

It's only by the grace of God that we weren't born into similar situations.  We are blessed beyond measure to live in a country where people around the world want to escape to in order to find refuge.  The very least we can do is pray.  Will you join me?  Will you join me in praying for 52,000+ children today?

James 1:22-27
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

God bless you!
