"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you."
A few weeks ago, we had a mom squad luncheon honoring our mother's. The theme for the day was precious heirlooms and it incorporated how we each are a precious heirloom in God's eyes. The mom squad made a video where we got to talk about what our mom's meant to us. I think that the final video where they were all incorporated together turned out really beautiful.
During the middle of that next week, I got a call from my brother in Virginia and he said that my mom was being taken to the ER, that they thought she had a stroke. Immediately I asked for prayer from my friends, family and the sisters at Sancta Clara Monastery. My husband helped me get to see her by getting me a plane ticket and then taking me all the way to Cleveland for my flight. He always comes through for me no matter what!
When I got there, we found out that she had a mini stroke. She was in the hospital for a few days and then was able to go back to her assisted living.
I was able to take her out to spend some time together, getting her hair cut, seeing a movie and having a picnic with her before I left. Sometimes it is just the little things that we do, that shows you love and honor somebody, even if it is making them smile and laugh. Life is short, we often realize it when somebody is sick or in the hospital and I think that otherwise we go about our lives not even thinking about how fragile life really is, and I hope that I will always obey God's commandment, without even thinking to do it. Just automatically do what is right.
Many in today's society are worried about themselves. I think it is important to put people in front of yourself, not neglecting yourself, but to put others feelings, and needs first. When we do that we show others, Jesus. I am attaching the video about my mom, I hope you enjoy it. I even challenge you to make one for your own mother and give it to her not because it is Mother's day but because she is your mother and you honor her every day. If your mom is already in heaven, I challenge you to go to a quiet place and pray to the Lord for giving you a mom for whatever length of time you had her for and remember the good times and even just talk to your mom and tell her how much you love her. I am pretty sure she already knows, but know this SHE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU MORE!!!
