Jeremiah 31:25 I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. (NIV)
In preparation for the wonderful and exciting event we have coming up on September 20th, I am reminded of my need to be REFRESHED!
Have you ever had one of those evenings. YOU KNOW... The kind when the food is cooking and the little one starts crying bloody murder. You run to see what happened only to find out she bumped her head and is in need of some ice. As you walk to get the ice you hear the loud yelling of two other children as the big brother purposely and joyfully annoys the life out of his dear little sister. As if that isn't enough, your teenager feels that your signature on a piece of paper for school tomorrow is an immediate necessity. As you look for a pen, the fire detector in your house goes off reminding you that you were in fact cooking dinner.
After fanning the fire detector, cutting off the food, getting the ice, stopping the argument and signing the paper, the only place you can think to go to for a moment is the Bathroom. You call an audible and dash for the restroom, close the door and lay your head on the sink. BATHROOM BREAK!
Does this sound at all familiar to you? If your anything like me, admitting to the fact that you find peace and serenity in the calmness and solitude of you restroom can be a little embarrassing. Yet true. There are times I will go in the restroom and just sit on the edge of the tub for a moment of peace and quiet. Closing the door to the restroom is similar to closing the door to the world. Before I can inhale and exhale five good times, a knock at the door reminds me that I'm not on a destination resort but rather the edge of the tub of my bathroom.
I think that one of the most challenging things for mothers to do is recognize and accept when they are in need of a break. When they need to be REFRESHED! By definition the word refresh means "give new strength or energy to; reinvigorate." Doesn't this sound like something we all could use. I realize that the bathroom breaks are only symptoms of my larger issue, I needed a REFRESHER. With this realization I have come up with a few ways to go about getting the REFRESHING I need:
Tip 1. Spend time away from the family for a little while. If this means leaving the kids with my husband or a sitter for a few hours, this time allows me to regroup and recharge.
Tip 2. Designating time to spend in the Word and Prayer. This has proven itself to be my source of life. After spending time in my word and prayer I walk away feeling refreshed in a way that I can only experience in the presence of God.
Tip 3. Fellowship. Time with other women in fellowship almost always allows me to walk away refreshed. Sharing my heart, praying and just releasing is detox for my soul.
This brings me back to my final point. If you are in need of refreshing, I am happy to inform you that the first two Tips don't require anyone's commitment but yours! Sometimes we have to stop looking for the time and "JUST DO IT." When you do, you will realize that the time was there all along.
For the last Tip, I am excited to tell you that THE MOM SQUAD is working diligently to create opportunities to fellowship for those that are a part of THE MOM SQUAD COMMUNITY.
Coming this September 20th we will have an exciting event at Root Candle for anyone that would like to join us. Be on the lookout for updates so that you can experience the Fellowship you will need to feel REFRESHED this fall.
